After years of being not active, I
only recently caught the bug for fitness. I finally
figured out that the only thing that matters for me is
consistency. It doesn't matter what I do, I just do
something 3-5 times a week, more when I am in town,
less when I'm on the road. I've been working out at
this rate for six months now, so I feel it's firmly a
habit I can live with.
I do a mix of workouts with my personal trainer, yoga,
dance and group exercise classes, and sometimes a solo
workout at the gym, although that's the most boring
for me. The iPod helps a lot. I motivate myself with
new playlists.
My work schedule is hectic, and I travel a lot so I
have to get creative to make time for exercise. I
printed out the class schedules for all the places I
like and keep them with me at all times. I decide my
workout schedule the week in advance, but adjust
day-by-day. There are so many places to do yoga and
dance in SF you can find something almost any hour of
the day or night.
Current favorites
45-60 min on the elliptical trainer at the gym
conditioning class (step class with weights)
dance classes at Rhythm and Motion studios (tribal,
modern)
yoga at "It's Yoga"
climbing at Mission Cliffs
Also, I got a heart rate monitor (www.polarusa.com) so
I can go for a brisk walk or use the hotel treadmill
when I travel and not miss too many workouts in a
week. I pack my resistance tube (about $7 at a sports
store) since it's light. Add a chair and a floor and
you can manage a pretty good hotel room workout. My
hotel room exercise set also includes some Ashtanga
yoga (sun salutations, some stretches)
Can you tell I caught the bug and I'm lovin it?
